Department of Computer Science and Technology

Undergraduates in the University of Cambridge Department of Computer Science & Technology

We are taking part in the University of Cambridge Virtual Open Days from 5-18 July, offering prospective applicants opportunities to find out what it’s like to study Computer Science here.

Offering an admissions talk and a sample lecture, and the chance to ask questions about studying here, the Computer Science Open Days are aimed at prospective applicants in Year 12 (or equivalent) and prospective mature applicants (aged 21 or over), together with any parents or supporters.

They take place as part of the wider University Open Days that additionally offer opportunities to visit the colleges virtually and find out about student life and finance.

During the Virtual Open Days, you can come on a virtual visit to this Department and find out about the Computer Science course (or Tripos, as it’s called here) and about the application process.

You can also hear the Computer Science admissions talk. This is normally given in a lecture theatre here, but this year it will be pre-recorded instead and made available to view for the whole of the week of the Open Days. The talk will be given by Dr Rob Harle who will explain the admissions process, the structure of the Computer Science Tripos, the projects students undertake at different stages of the Tripos, and the skills they learn along the way.

You can also hear a sample lecture, to get a flavour of the learning here. And during both days, we will be offering a Q&A facility where you can email your questions to members of the department.

We will do our best to answer attendees' questions directly, but we will also have a live 'Q&A' web page that we will be updating over the course of the Open Days.

In order to attend the Virtual Open Days, please register in advance. To book your place, please complete this booking form.

For those unable to attend an open day the current admissions brochure is available. You may also be interested in the example pathways which show how students with different specialisms or interests could progress through the course.

You can also watch videos featuring some of our current undergraduate students and how they made their journey to Cambridge on our YouTube Channel.
