On-site cycle park

Bicycles can be parked right in front of the William Gates Building. There are two main areas: parking spaces in a fenced-off area (bike compound) and the spaces outside the fence. Part of the latter and all of the compound is covered by a canopy roof that is fully illuminated at night.  Please note that only our members, students and visitors can access the compound, and all other University members risk getting stuck inside if they tailgate anybody on the way in.

Due to the high numbers of bikes in the city, bike theft is common, so for your own security please ensure your bikes are locked. The department takes no responsibility for any losses or damage to any bikes parked on-site.

Both staff members and research students also have access to the internal cloackroom/drying room. The door to the cloackroom can be found right opposite the Reception window – just open it with a card and follow to the end of the narrow corridor.
In addition, staff members also have access to the internal bike store – accessible both from the outside and from the cloackroom.

Secure parking at the train station

If you prefer to come to Cambridge by train, you can leave your bike in the indoors cycle park next to the station.

Online interactive map

The Cambridge Cycling Campaign website provides useful resources for cyclists, and CycleStreets provides an excellent interactive cycle route planner designed by Simon Nuttall. It is based on a high-quality route database that was specifically created for Cambridge cyclists and is maintained by experienced local cyclists. It tells you the shortest, fastest or quietest cycling route from A to B anywhere in Cambridge and the surrounding area.

Repair

A small bike repair kit and an air pump can be obtained from Reception on request.
