  • Faraday Predictive Ltd Contact: Geoff Walker
Faraday Predictive Ltd is a small, Cambridge-based organisation who monitor industrial equipment by simply measuring the voltage and current being drawn by the motor driving the equipment. By some clever automated analysis of the relationship between voltage and current, we are able to identify developing faults before the equipment fails and provide automated advice on corrective action and when it should be performed, allowing clients to avoid unexpected breakdowns, resulting in significant performance and cost improvements for the client businesses.

This technology involves some sophisticated mathematics and computing. At present, it sometimes also requires expert human inspection to fully diagnose the problem. We are working to progressively increase the capability of the automated diagnostics, and thus reduce the proportion of occasions requiring human intervention.

Future developments will involve machine learning, to take advantage of the ever-growing database of equipment behaviour, to refine the diagnostics (what is wrong?) and prognostics (how long have I got before it fails completely?), and provide what can be quite complex information in the most visually appealing, user-friendly format.

Join us and you can have a big influence on our future success.

  • HP UK Development Limited Contact: Hussein Ali
HP acquired Bromium on 19 September 2019.  Inspired by the isolation principles of traditional virtualization, our R&D team has created a game-changing technology called micro-virtualization to protect end users against advanced malware. Every task the user performs, such as opening a document or clicking on a link, is isolated in its own micro-VM, with access to just the resources required for that task, and existing just for the life of the task. Protection is thus provided through isolation, without relying on detection, hence reliably defending the user from polymorphic and even zero-day malware.

Our R&D Centre is based in Cambridge and we have both permanent and intern positions available.  We're looking for talented engineers who enjoy working on challenging Systems software problems and you’ll sit in a team which best utilises your specialist skills or interests - whether that’s cross browser development, UI, security or low-level Windows development.

  • Matrix.org Contact: Matthew Hodgson
Matrix.org is the leading open standard for decentralised, encrypted, real-time communication. Our mission is to build an entirely open ecosystem for secure interoperable comms on the open Internet, which acts to defragment and unify the legacy centralised services which we use today (e.g. the phone network, WhatsApp, Slack etc). We give users sovereignty over their own conversations by letting them pick the services they prefer and trust, rather than being forced into using and trusting a massive centralised service.

Matrix began in 2014, and currently has over 3 million users in its ecosystem and over 4,000 deployed instances. Created by the former Telephony/Media team from MX Telecom (ex-Cambridge communications startup), most of the core Matrix team is now employed by New Vector - a new startup who provide commercial services for Matrix, including building the open source Riot.im collaboration app. New work on the horizon includes expanding Matrix to be the de facto communication layer for WebVR, Internet-of-Things data - and anywhere else you need to securely share information in realtime on the Internet!

  • Monumo Contact: Jaroslaw Rzepecki
Inspired by the environmental challenge, driven by the desire to solve problems long considered too difficult, Monumo is changing the game. At Monumo we are combining human ingenuity with deep tech intelligence to deliver more sustainable designs and solve engineering problems impossible by conventional means.

Our methodology—using human creativity to set parameters but AI to determine the best possible answers—opens the door to optimal solutions and disruptive new design ideas that would be impossible or at the very least improbable without this blend of great engineers and compute power.

Our focus at present is on the engineering design problem of electric motors – a mature but increasingly vital technology with plenty of room for improvement. However, the techniques and the creativity employed to solve the engineering and technical problems of improving motor performance can be applied to other challenges. The tools we are creating can be applied to clean energy generation, aviation, heavy industry, manufacturing, robotics… there’s a lot to optimise.

Every effort must be made to solve the climate crisis, to protect the Earth’s resources, reduce the materials we use, increase the efficiency and performance of things we make and reduce their environmental impact. Monumo can play a meaningful part in this change.

We are a well-funded start-up based just outside of Cambridge UK and in 2023 will have a new home on an attractive campus very close to Cambridge Railway Station with plenty of cafes, bars and leisure facilities on its doorstep. Our core team brings together complimentary skills and expertise from Arm, Microsoft Research, Plextek and Academia. We really value everyone’s individual experience and the different perspectives, skills and humour they bring to our team.
