The main pool of around thirty machines for the Part III and MPhil courses are in SW02 and SW04. During practical sessions in SW02, priority should be given to students doing the practical, but there are likely to be unused machines for other students to use for quiet work. The machines should all be sufficiently similar to be used interchangeably, so that users should not care which one they use each time.

Users who have setup ssh user keys can also ssh in to slogin-acs from the internet, and do 'light work'. Alternatively, for more serious work, they can run ssh -K dev-cpu-acs (or if a GPU is needed, ssh -K dev-gpu-acs - but be aware that the GPU is shared and you should not start long GPU-intensive experiments here; more on GPU facilities) from slogin-acs to connect to a dedicated development server. Once logged into a machine, running kinit -l 99d will get a new Kerberos ticket for as long as possible (see SSH access to the Computer Laboratory for details). Please do not use a SW02 machine for 'heavy work' if there is an active user on the machine.

When finished with a machine, please turn it off. Idle machines are liable to shutdown when unused for a period.

If you discover any other tips which might be useful to other users, please pass them on to pagemaster@cl.cam.ac.uk.
