Self-proposed Projects

†  Part III students who wish to propose their own, original research project must identify a qualified and willing academic supervisor as soon as possible. They should discuss this with their course advisor at their first meeting. The supervisor's help should be obtained in the development of the proposal. To ensure that the project meets the requirements for the MEng, such proposals should be submitted to the examiners no later than noon, Friday 9 November 2022.

A project idea which is an original proposal made by the supervisor is not a self-proposed project. The proposal should be submitted by 16 November.

A project idea which is a variation of one suggested by a supervisor is not a self-proposed project. The proposal should be submitted by 16 November.

A project idea which was jointly developed by a student and the supervisor is not a self-proposed project. The proposal should be submitted by 16 November.

NLP Projects

‡ MPhil students who wish to do a project within the Natural Language Processing Group will need to nominate three projects topics from different supervisors in preference order by 16 November 2022. They will be assigned to a project and project supervisor by the NLP Group. The projects may be three selected from those proposed by academic staff or may include one self-proposed topic. This procedure has been adopted in order to balance staff load, but every effort will be made to give students their first choice project.

Once the NLIP group have allocated projects, MPhil students will have until noon Thursday 19 January 2023 to submit a full proposal, work-plan and resource form to the Postgraduate Education Office.
