Department of Computer Science and Technology

We're holding Open Days in the Department this week when we're welcoming in prospective undergraduate students and their parents.

Visitors are able to take tours of the Department, hear an admissions talk and chat to Directors of Studies in Computer Science about what it's like studying here.

Visitors can also meet and talk to current students. As well as welcoming them and showing them around, some of our students are putting on demonstrations. These show current work in several areas including Extended Reality and Graphics. There is also a Security demo, where students are inviting visitors to try their hand at 'lock-picking' and learn how techniques in picking locks have parallels with the techniques hackers use to break into our computers and access our data.

Each day also includes a sample lecture so prospective students can get a flavour of the lectures that undergraduates here attend. And there is a series of films showing how this year's students worked on their Group Design Projects. These are projects all second-year undergraduates carry out as part of their practical work. They are put into teams and and spend seven weeks working with a client from among the Department's industry supporters to develop a product based on an initial design brief.

All these activities take place as part of Cambridge University's Cambridge Open Days 2023. This year, the Open Days are running both in-person and virtually.

The Open Days are aimed at prospective applicants from Year 12 (or equivalent) and mature applicants (aged 21 or over), together with their parents or supporters, to help them learn more about the University. Booking is essential. You can book for the Open Days here.
