The migration of filespaces from elmer to our new NetApp servers is likely to start sometime after 24th September and will take several weeks to complete. It will be necessary to disable access to individual parts of the filestore while they are being copied. For example, your home directory, bigdisc space and any group filespaces you use are very likely to be disrupted on different days.

Although the migration procedures have been rehearsed on a small scale, it is difficult to know how long each copy will take, and it is not therefore feasible to publish a complete schedule in advance. Rather than clutter the teaching-research mailing list with a large number of messages announcing short term plans and reporting progress, we have created a temporary mailing list for this purpose.

The mailing list is: cl-filer-migration@lists.cam.ac.uk

Please subscribe to this list if you want to be kept informed of filer disruptions for migration. (If you are certain that you do not rely on the filer, you need not bother.) You can self-subscribe; there is no need to contact sys-admin unless you have a problem with the subscription.

The best way to subscribe is to visit the information page at https://lists.cam.ac.uk/mailman/listinfo/cl-filer-migration and follow the instructions there. Alternatively you can send an empty message with a subject of subscribe to cl-filer-migration-request@lists.cam.ac.uk

The mailing list will be deleted when the migration is complete.
