Although a large majority of the global population is connected to the Internet, this is not the case for the Global South, where less than 25% of people have access. In this talk, I will present some of the fundamental challenges we have addressed during several years of work in Information and Communication Technologies for Development (ICT4D). I will discuss our research on Spectrum Scarcity, Resource Sharing, and Information Availability as key enablers of Internet connectivity in underserved areas.
Andres is a former Senior Research Associate at the Department of Computer Science and Technology, University of Cambridge. He has also been affiliated with the University of Los Andes - Mérida, Venezuela, lecturing and participating in academic initiatives in various Latin American countries including Colombia, Ecuador, Haiti, Guatemala, and Argentina.
Based in various research institutions and universities in Europe and Latin America, Andrés has worked on one of the fundamental problems of the future internet: how it can be scaled to the vast, underserved areas where two-thirds of the world’s population lives through the development of sustainable and low-cost solutions."
