The ultimate aim of displays for virtual reality and augmented reality applications is achieving success in the Visual Turing Test using the device. Holographic display is one of the top contenders in computational displays due to its ability to reconstruct complex light information, yet there are challenging features to overcome. Recent advancements in image quality of holographic displays with machine learning approaches have gained attention throughout research and commercial fields, but the perceptual impacts are often overlooked in these discussions. In this talk, I introduce the first works that performed perceptual tests with modern holographic displays and present guidelines to help achieve success in the Visual Turing Test.
