Industrial Action to affect National Rail services from 29 January to 6 February, 2024

Train companies serving Cambridge from London are Great Northern (Kings Cross station), Greater Anglia (Liverpool St Station) and Thameslink (various including St Pancras). It is recommended that you leave more time for travel as some scheduled trains will be cancelled with the overtime ban. On Tuesday use the slower Liverpool Street train service as the Greater Anglia line is operating albeit with an overtime ban. Please check for updates.

Getting Around

If you are flying into London Gatwick or Stansted Airports there are direct trains to Cambridge Train Station. London Heathrow and City airports require routing through London mainline train stations. It is possible to get from Heathrow to Cambridge within two hours using Express Trainsthe Tube and the Train. It might be useful to download the Trainline App to keep everything together, you usually get a digital ticket or you can collect tickets at any ticket kiosk at the station, you will need to bring the physical payment card you paid with. For Google Pay or PayPal, any card will do.

Upon reaching Cambridge train station, the city centre is easily accessible through available bus services. Taxis are readily available just outside the Cambridge Train Station, accepting both cash and cards. For a pre-arranged taxi, Panther Taxi is a reliable option. You can reach them at (0044) 01223 715 715 or conveniently book through the Panther Taxi Mobile App. More travel information is available on the University’s main site.

We hope this information helps you plan your travel and accommodation arrangements for the workshop. Should you have any further queries, please feel free to reach out to us. We look forward to welcoming you to Cambridge!

Accommodation

We've partnered with the Graduate Cambridge to reserve 35 rooms at a special flat rate of £199 per room. This rate includes accommodation, breakfast, and VAT. Please note that rooms will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Attendees are kindly requested to manage their individual room charges. To ensure your reservation, kindly utilize the designated code 280124DCS at the checkout, or click on the reservation link The Permanence and Durability Workshop - University of Cambridge.

Many of the Cambridge colleges provide accommodation. If you would like to make a reservation at Jesus College or Westminster College, it is recommended to call or email them directly, and sometimes they offer a budget-friendly rate.

We also recommend some excellent hotels in the city centre. The options include Hilton Cambridge City Centre and University Arms Hotel. These hotels provide comfortable accommodations and are conveniently located near the workshop venue. Or consider some recommendations from the Telegraph.

Alternatively, popular platforms like Booking.com, and AirBnB provide diverse accommodation choices.
