Abstract:

The transition from handheld devices to wearable headsets represents a fundamental paradigm shift in user-centric design. This talk explores the core design principles necessary for seamless mobile mixed reality (MR). We begin by examining foundational mobile interaction techniques, highlighting how familiar inputs can bridge the gap into spatial computing. As MR ecosystems grow increasingly complex, managing digital interruptions becomes critical. The presentation will delve into the integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) to drive intelligent, adaptive notifications and contextual interactions, ensuring users avoid cognitive overload. Finally, we will look ahead to future interaction paradigms inspired by immersive virtual reality (VR) concepts. The talk will conclude by addressing the critical design and technical challenges of translating these VR-inspired ideas to ubiquitous, lightweight mobile headsets, offering a roadmap for building unobtrusive, human-centered MR ecosystems for everyday use.
