Abstract: is an open source project and non-profit foundation which publishes an open standard for decentralised communication - letting anyone host their own end-to-end encrypted chatrooms while participating in an open global network. The goal is to return control over communication to the general population - liberating it from WhatsApp, Slack, Google and friends. Some of the ideas for Matrix originally came out of a Part IB project, and in this talk we'll give an introduction to the protocol, its history, its clients & servers, and where it's going next!
