Department of Computer Science and Technology

I am currently a Visiting Researcher at the Department of Computer Science and Technology at the University of Cambridge, where I am conducting research on physical computing, programming pedagogy, and assessment practices in computer science education. My work particularly focuses on how programming and physical computing activities can be designed and assessed to support meaningful learning experiences for students. Being part of the Raspberry Pi Computing Education Research Centre provides an inspiring interdisciplinary environment that brings together research, pedagogy, and practice in computing education.

I am a faculty member in the Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technology at the Faculty of Education, Başkent University. I received my bachelor’s degree from Başkent University in 2005, my master’s degree from Middle East Technical University in 2007, and my Ph.D. from Ankara University in 2011. In 2017, I conducted postdoctoral research as a visiting scholar at King’s College London. I also completed a second master’s degree in Computer Engineering at Başkent University in 2022.

Since 2020, I have served as the Director of the Center for Learning and Teaching at Başkent University, where I lead initiatives related to faculty development, digital pedagogy, and innovative teaching practices in higher education. My research interests include instructional design, technology-enhanced learning, computer science education, programming pedagogy, distance education, artificial intelligence in education, and teacher professional development.

My recent research focuses particularly on programming education, physical computing, computational thinking, and assessment practices in K–12 computing education. I am interested in how learners develop conceptual understanding, creativity, and problem-solving skills through technology-supported and hands-on learning environments. Across my work, I aim to bridge research and practice by designing pedagogically meaningful learning experiences and supporting educators in the effective integration of technology into teaching and learning.

I have published numerous articles, book chapters, and educational resources in national and international venues, and I continue to collaborate on interdisciplinary research projects related to digital education and computing education.
