Department of Computer Science and Technology

Meet researchers working in robotics, and try programming your own mini robot car. Take a virtual tour of the Dawn supercomputer or make music with code. Tackle the logic puzzles that will stop an evil hacker deleting the internet or test how good you are at our Computer Science 'Taskmaster' challenge. These are just some of the activities that will be available to visitors at our Cambridge Festival Open Day on Saturday 21 March 2026.

Here in the Department, we want to engage the public, enthuse prospective students and encourage wider participation in Computer Science and Technology. As part of this, every year we open our doors during the Cambridge Festival and invite the public in.

In 2026, visitors here can enter the Prorok Lab to see researchers demonstrate new ways of getting a swarm of robots learns to work together. They'll also be able to try out 'Pirate'- and 'Hacker'-themed Escape Rooms.

They can meet researchers using AI to provide digital tools for our wellbeing, or to help us make the best decisions to protect the environment.

Visitors will also able to join a workshop on making music with Sonic Pi software, and hear researchers here discuss the new secure messaging technology they developed that is helping whistle-blowers contact Guardian journalists safely.

See all the activities that will be taking place on the day in the Cambridge Festival programme.
